Shua’a Ali (b. 1974), a celebrated Qatari artist, is renowned for her innovative approach to using natural materials to converse with culture and contemporary experiences. Her latest work, the Tawazun Sculpture, is a testament to this unique vision, brought to life through a collaboration with Atkya Art.

Atkya Art, with its extensive expertise in art design and production, from build to installation, partnered with Shua’a Ali to create Tawazun. This remarkable project is the result of the perfect synergy between Shua’a Ali’s creative genius and Atkya Art’s dedication to excellence.

Inspired by construction debris and neshan (location marks) found in both urban and desert environments, Shua’a Ali explores the relationship between past and present-day Doha. Through the symbolic stacking of materials, she creates visionary, balanced, and agglomerative sculptural forms that speak to the city’s evolution.

Tawazun, constructed from a diverse array of materials including granite, sandstone, and limestone, stands as a pillar symbolizing Qatar’s progress. The geometric interaction of elements within the sculpture juxtaposes the difficulties posed by the crisis of the blockade in 2017 with the remarkable stability Qatar was able to establish for itself.

This large-scale sculpture represents an equilibrium of traditional and modern elements found in Qatar’s infrastructure and heritage. The blending of these materials and forms reflects the resilience and adaptability of the nation, highlighting its ability to merge the old with the new seamlessly.
